Adding functionality with flexibility ADC KRONE Value-Added Modules (VAMs), passive optical devices that allow the monitoring, distribution and combination of optical signals, can play an extremely important role at all distribution points of the core, backhaul and access/distribution networks, in fixed line and mobile networks alike. ADC KRONE VAMs perform a variety of functions. At ILEC/CLEC (incumbent carrier/competing carrier) transition or demarcation points, they empower both parties with monitoring, test access, protocol analyser access and the easy resolution of SLA disputes. In 3G and 3G+ mobile networks, too, there is a need to provide signal monitoring and protocol analysis to check network health and to establish which network a fault is actually in for SLA resolution. To roll-out new services as they become technically possible and financially viable, shrewd network operators will look for the most economic and flexible solution to deploying them, which is where value-added modules (VAMs) are the best solution. WDM (Wave Division Multiplex) VAMs can be used to instantly increase capacity over existing or new fibre links. For point-to-point fibre networks, VAMs with splitter components can be deployed at the CO optical distribution fame to provide passive optical network (PON) splitter functions in the CO instead of in the outside plant. In PON networks, ADC KRONE VAMs can provide splitter functions in OSP and OSP active equipment cabinets. Learn more: |
