As the number of fibre optic cables in today’s networks grows, the type of fibre management system used is a critical factor affecting network stability and profitability. If carriers are to realise the full benefits of fibre optics, they must ensure that individual fibres are easily accessible for service turn-up and maintenance, that the fibres’ bend radii can be maintained and protected, and that all fibres (and the traffic they carry) are clearly and easily identified.

From the switching office, throughout the distribution network and into the customer premises, optical fibres need to be maintained and spliced. Until now, optical distribution frames, optical patch panels, roadside cabinets, underground closures and in-premises connection boxes have each had their own unique fibre splice design and technicians have needed different training and skills for each.

ADC KRONE’s FAME® (Fibre Access Management Element) Technology is a single circuit/single element splice management system common to every portion of the network.

The same FAME single circuit or single element splice cassettes are deployed from optical distribution frame (ODF) at the exchange, through the external plant, to ODFs or wall boxes inside the customer premises. This means that throughout the network technicians work with the same technology, need only one type of training and can easily be redeployed between exchange, outside plant and customer premises.
